Amgen Tour of California Cheat Sheet

The AMGEN Tour of California runs from May 13-19 and kicks off on Sunday for it's 13th year. The men’s annual professional cycling race is the only race in the U.S. on the UCI World Tour (the Swiss-based professional cycling organization). This year it starts in Long Beach and runs north, with stops throughout the state including South Lake Tahoe, before concluding in Sacramento, for a total of 645 miles. The cyclists ride at an average speed of 24 miles per hour and will hit their highest altitude on Carson Pass which is at 8,580 feet. Names to watch include Marcel Kittel, the 2017 opening stage winner and Peter Sagan, who is cycling’s first three-time consecutive world champion.

The AMGEN Tour of California Women’s Race empowered with SRAM is also a UCI World Tour race and is three days long, 187 miles, and will go from May 17-19. It begins in Elk Grove, CA, heads to South Lake Tahoe and then back to Sacramento for the conclusion.
